Mark Twain: The public is merely a multiplied
"me". [Me? That we are mirrors of each other? That
whatever one desires for himself/herself or for somebody else, good
or bad, would come to pass on one's self? That whether or not such
desire becomes true on the other person is just a prophetic
coincidence?]
Norman Vincent Peale: Imagination is the true magic. [But isn't it equally true that people's (collective) imagination is partly shaped by how they feel?] |

Proverbs 13:8 The ransom of a man's life
is his wealth, but the poor hears no rebuke. (Kidnappings for
ransom?)

Oscar Wilde: Every man of ambition has to
fight his century with its own weapons. What this century worships
is wealth. The God of this century is wealth. To succeed one must
have wealth. At all costs one must have wealth. (Hooray!)

Hebrew Bible (Old Testament). Ecclesiastes 10:19
A feast is made for laughter, and wine makes merry; but money answers
everything. (Bullseye! - I meant no offence, Rolf Tauber. I just hope
the right people would also see the toxic mix that is brewing.)
(07/11/01 - Well, nobody is perfect. The writer must have had realised
long ago that only The Almighty God answers everything.) |

1 Tim 6:10 For the love of money is the root of
all sorts of evil, and some by longing for it have wandered away from
the faith & pierced themselves with many griefs. (Which is correct?)
|
|
George Bernard Shaw: Lack of money is the root
of all evil. (Especially if the person happens to be intelligent but
does not believe that physical life is an illusion?)

|
Buddha: We are what we think. All that we are
arises with our thoughts. With our thoughts, we make our world.
(Choices and eternal consequences?)
|
|
Joseph Edward Murphy: The 'Law of Attraction'
attracts to you everything you need (or want, good or bad?),
according to the nature of your thought life. Your environment and
financial condition are the perfect reflection of your habitual
thinking. Thought rules the world. |

Cicero (106-43 BC): The good of the people
is the chief law. |
|
Cree Indian Proverb: (Or prophecy?)
Only after the last tree has been cut down, Only after the last river has been poisoned, Only after the last fish has been caught, Only then will you find that money cannot be eaten. |

Why everyone should know their genetic origins:
"I understand that people want to know something about the anonymous donor but if, 20 years ago, there was an undertaking with a donor to be anonymous, you can't change that retrospectively," Dr (Francoise)Shenfield said. "I'm totally against the dogmatic attitude that everyone should know their genetic origins, because there's absolutely no evidence that it's important."[Source:The Sydney Morning Herald, Expert rejects laws to identify baby donors by Penny Fannin and Steve Dow, 26/11/01, p.3] (Mr 10:11)- And He said to them, "Whoever divorces his wife and marries another woman commits adultery against her; (Mr 10:12) - and if she herself divorces her husband and marries another man, she is committing adultery." [Were they really after gene quality even when both parties were guilty of the same offence?] In The Blood, End of Evolution, Healthwise Productions(BBC), Professor Steve Jones, Professor of Genetics, University College London (1998) - "The map of the whole human DNA is like a train trip of a thousand miles. For every inch of a thousand miles there are 50 DNA units, 50 bits of information, changing themselves at a few feet to a few hundred yards long. The journey is full of surprises. For more than 9/10 of the way much of the countryside seems to be covered by sheer repeats of the same DNA message. It's flat. It's dull and there's not much happening. That part of the DNA doesn't seem to do anything. Maybe it's junk (maybe it's reserve). Now and again, though, we get to places where something is going on. They are places that are full of factories. They are working genes. Scattered along the line are some 60,000. A blood factory, an eye colour factory perhaps even a few personality factory. Their DNA has a sense of purpose. They are full of machinery making things. And when they go wrong they produce inherited disease. If say the blood clotting machinery goes wrong because of an inherited fault in the gene you get haemophilia. Some genes control giant power stations, burning the body's fuel. They are working in every cell in every part of the body turning food into energy..." "What I find amazing though is that one tiny change in a bolt anywhere in the railway line can change your blood group, your eye colour or your life. All inherited illness is caused by faults in the DNA..." "Inherited problems come from the past. Often their origin is lost in history. In Finland there is a unique pattern of genes that has almost disappeared from the rest of Europe. But it has a message for the rest of the world about the genetic future. Finland has about 30 genetic diseases that are almost unknown anywhere else. Within a hundred miles in a certain place in Finland there are more cases of certain diseases than there are in the rest of the world put together. Some of these diseases are found only in Finland and some of them are found only in a few villages. In Finland at the northern edge of Europe there have never been many people and most live in small villages miles from anywhere..." "People often think that evolution, genetic change, inevitably means progress - the advance from dinosaurs to human beings by natural selection, survival of the fittest, all that kind of stuff. But in fact that isn't true at all. Most evolution, most genetic change takes place by 'accident.' (But what causes those accidents?) It's all a matter of the accidents of history. And in Finland we have a few islands of people different genetically one from the other..." "Finland is a goldmine for genetics. Not only are there biological records of the past through diseases - but the written records, the family trees kept by the church are the best in the world... Finland shows how human genes can change at random with no driving force but chance." [There was a couple who are related to each other through their 6th generation ancestors who are both carriers of a defective gene. Their daughter is also a carrier but their son is mentally and physically disabled]. [I firmly believe that, other things being equal, superior and stronger children are products of 'deeper love' but not the love between relatives. I believe that such children have more 'love' chemicals (good hormones & other substances) in their brain with all their wholesome consequences. For example, a beautiful and intelligent model might donate her eggs for $20,000 each and a handsome, intelligent and successful male might also do the same with his sperms. Suppose, a number of rich couples are able to acquire the eggs and sperms from both of them. Their 'test-tube babies' might grow up and one day meet each other in a 'social function' and 'fall in love' not realising that they're actually siblings.] "And that is the lesson of Finland. There are a lot of damaged genes about. They spread by chance and they don't disappear because those with a single copy are perfectly healthy. The genes will persist as long as the people do..." [Studies show that animals or people exposed to chemicals or radiations develop one or more damaged genes in their reproductive system - males' sperm counts are dramatically reduced, their penises become smaller in size and/or they produce abnormal children or children who suffer from serious allergies.] "As in Finland each group has its own set of genes. One European in 25 carries the gene for cystic fibrosis, which leads to lung disease and one Pakistani in 16 has the gene for the blood disorder Thalassaemia. 40,000 Britons are carriers of the gene for the potentially fatal disease PKU. Because there are so many genetic diseases the conclusion seems to be alarming. Everyone carries a single copy of at least one lethal gene. Two doses would kill..." "Over a hundred million people in the world are the offspring of cousins. Such marriages create a close-knit family with wealth staying in the family line. Whatever the social advantages of cousin marriage, it does increase the risk of genetic disease..." [Charles Darwin in 'Evolution', a T.V. documentary (2001), had said that first cousin marriages always produce weak children.] "Most people see the evolutionary future as lying in changes in the body but the most important thing about human evolution past or yet to come isn't in the body at all. The truth about our future is more subtle. It comes from the latest in genetic research. When you look at a great city you can see how much activity there is by asking how many of the factories are working. Now you can do just the same with genes. And there is a great deal of variation from place to place. In the red blood cells there are only 66 genes at work. In the liver there is a couple of thousands. In the brain, though, the centre of the body's economy, there are 30,000 genes working at once, nearly half the total..."[That genes have memories? Are flexible and malleable based on what humans think?] "The truth about our future lies not in what we are made of but in what we think. It is not in the blood, not in the DNA, but in the mind." |
